Your course makes the statement on slide 20 that Building Codes no longer require a thermal barrier. Can you email more specific info. on what you are referring to there as in our area it is still common practice to use a thermal barrier when installing EPS over a steel deck.

In the US thermal barrier is excluded on rolling doors, garage doors
operators, access panels, vehicular gate openers and also when hot asphalt
is used in roof assembly to adhere EPS insulation to wood fibreboard or
gypsum board serving as either the thermal barrier or protection board in
the roof system.

Although passing course, I found the "ECO" aspect
of a normal roofing course to be overly complex and self-agrandizing....
