Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- List the five types of stone found in quarries in the area around Verona, Italy and their characteristics.
- Describe Verona’s important historical architectural buildings and monuments that use local stone.
- Use the technology section information to make appropriate decisions on slab vs. cut-to-size and appropriate. finishes.
- List the requirements for properly selecting and specifying a particular stone for a specific project.
- Play a direct role in sourcing stone for a project by relying on one or more of the additional resources provided.

Background: Vincent Marazita, a member of the CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) and the MIA (Marble Institute of America), is the president & owner of Marazita & Associates in Canoga Park, California, an international consulting firm specializing in market research and educational seminars in the natural stone industry. Mr. Marazita is also a board member National Advisory Council for Continuing Education of the American Institute of Architects.
After graduating from Harvard in 1981, Mr. Marazita lived in Italy for 6 years, teaching in the Architectural Department at the University of Genoa in Northern Italy. He came back to the USA as a consultant for the Italian Government (ICE – Istituto per il Commercio Estero) and has worked in the international dimensional stone industry since 1986.
He has been a featured speaker at the Construction Specifications Institute, Coverings (Ceramic Tile & stone Industry National Convention), Stonexpo (National Convention of the Marble Institute), Surfaces (Flooring Industry Trade Show), Internazionale Marmi e Macchine in Carrara Italy (Annual International Stone Expo in Carrara), and the Marmomacch Expo in Verona Italy.
He specializes in international sourcing and selection of natural stone materials for architectural applications and his consulting company, Marazita & Associates, is a primary statistical source for Natural Stone Industry research in the USA.
His study abroad courses have been audited & accredited by: the American Institute of Architects (AIA), The Royal Insititute of British Architects (RIBA), the National Kitchen & Bath Association in the US (NKBA), the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
