Homasote Company’s 440 SoundBarrier® panels help architects meet International Building Code in floor and wall systems. This economical, framer-installed sound control solution for multi-family and commercial buildings is a dry alternative to poured lightweight concrete which can introduce moisture into a structure.

Section 1207 of the IBC Code mandates minimum 50 STC for sound transmission and 50 IIC for impact noise. Listed in UL L500 Series floor assemblies, 440 SoundBarrier allows builders to meet or exceed code with hardwood, laminate, carpet-and-pad and other finishes. A decoupled wall system with 440 SoundBarrier and steel studs achieves an STC of 51 in a one-hour rated system. A double-stud decoupled system can provide an STC of 66.

Homasote®reg; is an outstanding tackable surface by itself or as a substrate for interior panels with varying finishes. Native Homasote has a rustic look. When sanded on both sides it is available as PINnacle™, an elegant tackboard. DesignWall®reg; is a Class A tackable panel wrapped in a Guilford of Maine fabric. Other panels feature cork, and burlap finishes. Architects also specify the Class A Homasote N.C.F.R.®reg; Homasote for custom fabric wrapping.

Homasote Company, an internationally known environmental icon, is the oldest manufacturer of building products from recycled materials in the U.S., and the only manufacturer of its kind in the Americas. Each production day we recycle up to 250 tons of post-consumer paper, including all curbside recycled newspaper from New Jersey’s capital county. Every production year our unique manufacturing process helps conserve nearly 1.4 million trees and eliminates more than 65 million pounds of solid waste which otherwise would go into landfills.
