Name: Thomas D. Clingan
Title: Manager, Sales Training - Human Resources, Armstrong World Industries
Background: In Tom’s current position, he is responsible for managing the skill, knowledge and expertise development of Armstrong’s field sales organization. In addition developing, delivering and/or coordinating training programs for Armstrong’s sales team, Tom’s other “customers” include Armstrong’s distributor sales representatives who sell Armstrong products as well as key channel customers who sell Armstrong floors to the end user.
In Tom’s previous position as FPO’s Worldwide Manager of Quality Management, Tom was involved in conducting various training programs relating to TQM. In this position, he consulted and trained the management teams of over 20 of Armstrong’s independent flooring distributors on implementing TQM throughout their organizations. Other related training programs, which he provided, are Benchmarking, Process Improvement, Corrective Action and Recognition
Tom started his career at Armstrong in 1973 as a sales representative in the Floor Division and moved through various positions in the field. In 1987, he was named the National Sales Manager for the Professionally Installed and Builder Markets until he moved into the Quality Manager’s position in 1992. He was named to his current position in 1998.
