Architecture Student’s Vision Inspires Green Classroom Modular Building Institute and M Space Holdings Coordinate Placement of Sustainable Portable Classroom
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Modular Building Institute (MBI) and M Space Holdings announced the placement of an eco-friendly portable for the Waldorf School (Waldorf) in Charlottesville, VA. The unit was inspired by the winning entry from MBI’s annual student architecture competition. This project was sponsored by MBI’s educational foundation and factory-built by MBI members M Space Holdings and Miller Building Systems. MBI members Bard Manufacturing and Tell Manufacturing also participated.
Waldorf approached MBI after deciding on a modular classroom to quickly expand space. Upon reviewing the winning student design, Waldorf found it supported their vision for “Setting the Green Standard” through its greenest school campaign. Work started shortly thereafter to customize a similar classroom with features like:
Recycled Insulation
Recycled exterior siding, floor tile and acoustical ceiling tiles
Insulated doors and dual-glazed, Low E glass windows
Sun tunnels for natural daylighting
Energy efficient and quieter HVAC system
Paperless drywall
No VOC paint
“M Space is excited about the completion of their first ‘green’ building, and we were thrilled at meeting the needs and requirements of Waldorf School in both the unit’s design and timely delivery,” said Jeff Deutschendorf, M Space Holdings Chief Operating Officer.
"The placement of this portable allowed MBI to share one architecture student’s vision on the sustainable advantages of modular classroom design, and highlighted the time advantages of the modular process," said Tom Hardiman, MBI executive director.
