- Discuss the evolution of structural subflooring materials and technologies, including the advantages and disadvantages of each.
- Explain the manufacturing processes for plywood and OSB and how the two products differ in raw materials and structure.
- Compare the environmental and performance advantages of OSB and enhanced OSB to plywood and other subflooring materials.
- Summarize and avoid the problems that arise when insufficient attention is paid to structural subfloor panels during the design and construction process.

Title: Quality and Technical Manager - OSB, LP® Building Products
Background: Brian St.Germain is the OSB Quality and Technical Manager for Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP), Nashville, TN and has been with the company for 12 years. His responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and improving Quality systems to ensure products meet customer expectations and comply with all relevant industry and internal requirements; continuously improve manufacturing processes; and help develop and validate new products lines. Most recently he led the development efforts of SuperStruct, LP’s new brand of OSB furniture panels. He also manages LP’s OSB Customer Service Team which promotes the proper installation and use of OSB structural panels in both residential and commercial applications. Mr. St.Germain holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Wood Science and is an active member of the APA Technical Advisory Committee and PS2 Standing Committee.
