AEC389 - Mineral Wool Core Panels: Innovative Fire Resistive Wall Construction...THIS COURSE IS NO LONGER OFFERED

THIS COURSE IS NO LONGER OFFERED

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Identify the basic components of fire insulated panels and list the structural characteristics which create composite panels with an environmentally friendly mineral wool core (no VOCs or CFCs) that can achieve fire resistance ratings under the most demanding conditions.
Summarize the design requirements of fire resistive design construction, discuss fire resistive panel test methods, and explain how mineral wool panels fit within the constraints of the International Building Code (IBC).
Describe the manufacturing process of fire resistive mineral wool panels and discuss why it does not contribute to smog, the ozone layer, or to global warming potential.
Demonstrate how mineral wool core panels can be disassembled, moved and reused for a new project thus reducing the amount of building material sent to landfill.
Demonstrate how fire resistive insulated panels improve building performance by preventing moisture intrusion, lowering energy costs, and improving the thermal comfort (heating or cooling) of the building's occupants.
Analyze the sustainability benefits, attributes and performance criteria of fire resistive, mineral wool core panels relative to qualifying for credits within the U.S. Green Building Council LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System™.
