THIS COURSE IS NO LONGER OFFERED
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Define acoustics as it relates to architecture.
Determine the code requirements for sound transmission criteria.
Predict airborne and structure borne noise paths and select appropriate sound isolation details to disrupt these paths.
Identify sound isolation techniques, materials and products.
Recognize the role of resilient sound isolation clips in sound attenuation and specify appropriate locations for their use.
Approximately 1 hour. Delivered online, at your own pace.

Presenter Information

Name: Elzo F. Gernhart
Title: Vice President, PAC International, Inc.
Background: Most recent work is in the area of noise control products and components for the revolutionary Resilient Sound Isolation Clip (RSIC) family of noise control products with focus on both light and heavy framed buildings for the control of noise transmission between living units (both horizontally and vertically) and Outdoor Indoor Class (OITC) noise transmission. Specifically, involved in materials, components and product development with a focus on; a) cost effectiveness b) build ability c) fire safety d) extra ordinary noise control characteristics and complete integration into the current International Building Code (IBC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and Underwriters Laboratory (UL) standards.
Elzo Gernhart currently holds a number of USA patents for noise control products, methods, systems and utilizations. Elzo Gernhart is the chief engineer, designer and builder of over one hundred Underwriters Laboratory (UL) fire resistive design test assemblies of various fire endurance capacities including one, two, three and four hour classifications. Elzo Gernhart is the chief engineer, designer and builder of hundreds of acoustical laboratory test assemblies with specific focus on Sound Transmission Class (STC), Impact Insulation Class (IIC) and Outdoor Indoor Transmission Class (OITC) noise control.
Elzo Gernhart’s nearly four decades of construction related back ground include multiply construction related contracting business enterprises and employment with Owens-Corning Fiberglass in the early 70’s where Elzo Gernhart’s interest in acoustics and noise control products and sciences was germinated. Elzo’s interest in acoustics and noise control has been embraced by the entire Gernhart family. Today most of the Gernhart family is involved in the business of noise control is some degree. “RSIC is Fire Safe and Quiet, a nice combination for Life”
