Stelmack’s favorite project embraces an integrative approach where mutual respect leads to exceeding the project objectives and providing a high performing, healthy, and sustaining building community paramount to a projects success.
Stelmack has received numerous awards and recognition as a designer and advocate for sustainability including USGBC 2014 Best in Building – Small Interior Design Firm. The Green Economy Post recently included her in ‘Honoring 10 Women in Green Building and Design’ and Innovative Home magazine named her one of the ‘Top Ten Green Design Gurus’. Her award winning work has been widely published and recent projects received the highest honors from the ASID Colorado Chapter for 1st place ‘Residential Sustainable Design’. She was interviewed for American Architectural Review, a PBS Green Design Series, and since 2000 lectures and facilitates workshops on sustainability at national conferences including Greenbuild International and West Coast Green.
Sustainable, high performing, healthy design is paramount to Stelmack, exemplified through her 2nd edition of ‘Sustainable Residential Interiors’ published in 2014 by Wiley & Sons. A well-crafted and detailed book that takes readers through sustainable and healthy principles and practices, integrated design process, and how these apply to interior design on multiple levels. The first edition is an acknowledged catalyst for change awarded the Joel Polsky Prize by ASIDs Educational Foundation in 2008 recognizing outstanding academic contributions to the discipline of interior design.
As a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council Colorado Chapter, Stelmack is honored to serve on the Chapter’s board once more. In the chapters formative years she served as steering committee chair 2002-2003, the chapters’ first president 2003-2006 and co-leader of the Finance committee for Greenbuild ‘06 hosted in Denver. Recently, USGBC Colorado honored Annette as Volunteer of the Year. She also served on the Interiors Advisory Council for Healthy Home 2010 on behalf of Healthy Child Healthy World and serves on the Programs Working Group for Greenbuild. Annette was honored to chair ASIDs National Sustainable Design Council and Colorado’s Green School Initiative (2007-2010), Special Programs for Greenbuild, and served on the advisory board for Green Schools National Conference 2010-2012. Inspirit brings a contagious passion for sustainable building. With Stelmack’s leadership, spirit, positive attitude and resourcefulness the projects’ community is engaged leaving no stone unturned.
In her spare time she loves organic gardening, kayaking, biking, and spending time with family and friends – especially her husband Tom and their dog Buffett, her son, daughter-in-law and grandkids, and her immigrant parents.
