Understanding Moment Frames

Approximately 1 hour

Steel moment frames originated in response to the height and allowable opening limitations of masonry buildings many years ago and have since evolved to provide a safe, robust, and flexible bracing system for residential and commercial uses. This course traces their development and outlines their advantages; the various types of frames and their uses; how they work in a structure, especially in relation to protection from earthquakes; their code limitations and requirements; and some of the design tools that can be used to create them.
