Construction Trends, New Technologies and Their Impact on Healthcare Lighting Design

Construction trends, technology, and demographics interface and impact design for healthcare and lighting for these spaces. Both general use and specific treatment areas have more specialized requirements as part of a healthcare design plan. This can affect not only light levels but the physical and electrical characteristics of the fixtures and controls used in a space. Learning how to differentiate the lighting needs of public space from specialized clinical areas in healthcare and how to access the correct design guides will be discussed. We will look at specific guidelines, key design elements that can be found in these documents, and how to apply them to some of the key treatment areas and applications in healthcare spaces. New lighting and controls technologies such as tunable and selectable white lighting, lighting for infection control, and integrated asset tracking will be discussed.
