Efficient Lighting Design for Cost, Safety and Performance Solutions

Approximately 1 hour

The light bulb has been around since the 1800s, but lighting technology has changed a lot since then – and the advancements have only accelerated in recent years. Even LEDs, considered the latest technology, have been around since 1962. It wasn’t until recent years, though, that they’ve been developed to be more efficient than incandescent bulbs. Today’s LEDs are six to seven times more efficient and last 25 times longer than conventional fixtures, and their cost has fallen more than 85% since 2008. Efficient lighting options can significantly lower a building’s overall energy costs, improve light quality and reduce maintenance demands. Better light can boost worker safety, performance and productivity. In this course, you will learn the history of the light bulb, terms to know when discussing lighting projects, the types of fixtures available on the market and tips for spotting inefficient lighting. You’ll also learn how lighting retrofit projects reduce operating costs, maintenance and energy usage.
