FA03 A Tale of Tall Timber: UBC Brock Commons Student Residence

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

When completed in 2017, the UBC Brock Commons Student Residence will be the tallest wood building in the world.  Russell Acton will share how Acton Ostry Architects and tall wood advisor Hermann Kaufmann Architekten positioned themselves to win the commission. They will describe how an assortment of design challenges were met head-on using an innovative integrated design process.  Hear about the early beginnings in January 2015 that culminated in the start of construction just 10 months later—all achieved by combining a bit of European knowledge with a whole lot of Canadian pluck.

Presented by various experts on behalf of Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
