FA07 A Place for Everyone - The Halifax Central Library

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

The Halifax Central Library opened to an enthralled public in December 2014.  It is an example of an environmentally responsible community building, balancing architectural, social and environmental aspirations.  Designed in collaboration with the citizens of Halifax it has set a new standard for what can be achieved through community consultation. While targeting LEED Gold certification, the library's most important attribute is its contribution to social sustainability through multiple types of community spaces facilitating community focus and interaction. This presentation will describe the unique and lengthy design process that resulted in a social and cultural hub, successfully connecting an entire community.

Presented by various experts on behalf of Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
