FA20 Back to the Basics: Learning from Primitive Architecture

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

The beauty of Primitive Architecture has often been dismissed as accidental.  This architecture has always been, throughout different locations and times, an extension to it’s environment, a natural and ecological connection, creating a symbiosis shelter between Man and Nature.  The wisdom to be derived from them goes beyond economic and esthetic consideration; Vernacular Architecture does not go through fashion cycles. It is nearly immutable, indeed, unimprovable since it serves its purpose to perfection.  This lecture will aim to restore this architecture as an untapped resource of inspiration for industrial man trapped in his chaotic cities; an analysis of vernacular architecture from around the globe, along with projects I’ve built that uses this specific knowledge, turning in in an ultra-contemporary legacy.

Presented by various experts on behalf of Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC).
