Tour 2A Ladysmith & Chemainus

Approximately 3 hours

"This tour takes delegates south of Nanaimo to Ladysmith and Chemainus. Ladysmith, a small but growing community of approximately 8,300, is nestled on the eastern shores of Vancouver Island. Ladysmith is a charming West Coast town, enriched by the history of the original inhabitants of the area, the Stz’uminus First Nation. Residents place a very high value on preserving Ladysmith’s heritage, and the town is taking measures to enshrine those values in development-related plans, policies, and guidelines. More information on Ladysmith’s history and heritage is available here, and an inventory of its significant buildings on its Heritage Register is available here. Chemainus, further south of Ladysmith, is Vancouver Island’s arts town, nestled between the mountains and ocean. Chemainus is famous for over 40 large wall murals and 13 sculptures depicting its rich history. Architectural Highlights of this tour include completed works: Ladysmith Spirit Square Architect: Franc D’Ambrosio Ladysmith Amphitheatre at Transfer Beach Architect: Michelle Cloghesy, Landscape Architect / Concept Design: AYPQ Architecture Chemainus Valley Museum & Visitor Centre Architect: AYPQ Architecture SELECTION OF THIS TOUR IS REQUIRED THROUGH THE REGISTRATION PROCESS"
