G.E.M. Inc. manufactures Euroshield®, environmentally friendly recycled rubber roofing products from a facility located in Calgary, Alberta. Founded in 1999 by Mr. Henry Kamphuis in response to the overwhelming problem of what to do with the deluge of old tires clogging up landfills and dumpsites, it employs in excess of 30 people producing EuroSlate®, EuroLite Slate®, EuroShake® and EuroLite Shake®. All Euroshield® products are specifically designed to overcome extreme weather impact and temperature variances that cause splitting, peeling, cracking and rotting, undesirable characteristics associated with aging of other roofing systems. All products contain approximately 95% recycled content, the bulk of which is recycled tire rubber, and are covered by a limited transferable lifetime warranty.
The new value-priced product, EuroLite Slate®, launched in June of 2011 and a second new product, EuroLite Shake®, launched in January of 2012 are thinner and lighter versions of EuroSlate® and EuroShake®, designed to bridge the price gap between asphalt shingles and other pricier premium roofing materials like cedar, slate, metal and other synthetics. The panels handle and install much like asphalt shingles...fast and easy.
The reverse side of each EuroSlate® and EuroShake® panel features small cubical chambers designed to ensure structural integrity. In turn the cubicles trap air, creating an effective insulation barrier, which can contribute to reducing energy use in warmer climates. An added benefit to the design is additional sound-deadening qualities. The interlocking tongue and groove design of the panels provides tremendous resistance to wind uplift, adds to the structural integrity and ties the whole roof system together, producing a tight water-resistant seal for maximum performance.
