  • This program investigates the use channel embeds against weld plates and post-drilled anchors as the main methods commonly used for heavy connections to concrete building elements. The presentation explores the engineering and site practice behind each method, shows common shortcomings, basic materials science, and presents a number of real project examples with high-performance demands.   • This program presents a practical, efcient solution to the problem of thermal bridging in balconies. When balconies are designed and built without proper insulation, signifcant health and quality of life issues such as cold slabs, condensation, and mold may occur. When properly designed structural insulated balcony connectors are used, condensation, mold, and mildew can be avoided and signifcant energy savings can be achieved. This program shows how insulated balcony connectors are constructed in order to safely transfer all live and dead loads, while signifcantly reducing the heat transfer between balcony and structure.
