Quartz Surfacing Basics
Where quartz surfacing can be used is largely a matter of vision. The material itself is versatile and suitable for various applications. This course discusses quartz surfacing in terms of its performance capabilities, sustainable attributes, and endless design possibilities for both residential and commercial construction and design applications.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Describe the material composition of quartz surfacing in terms of its availability as a natural resource and its recyclability.
- Explain the manufacturing process of quartz surfacing and the steps manufacturers are taking to ensure any environmental impact is minimized.
- Recognize the sustainable performance capabilities of quartz surfacing in terms of its lifecycle, durability, strength, flexibility, impact- and scratch-resistance.
- Discuss application possibilities and current industry trends.
- Identify key fabrication and installation issues to consider when specifying quartz surfacing materials.
- Analyze the sustainability benefits of using quartz surfacing materials, and determine how the use of quartz surfacing materials in a design project can contribute towards certification under today’s green building programs.
