Name: Barbara A. Nadel, FAIA

Background: Ms. Nadel is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Fine Arts) and the State University of New York at Binghamton (Bachelor of Arts, Pre-Architecture). She studied architecture at Cornell University, physics at Hofstra University, and management at the University of Rhode Island. She has taught design studios at the Fashion Institute of Technology Interior Design Dept, served as an academic design critic and juror for national and international design awards programs, and was a team member for the National Architectural Accreditation Board (NAAB) visit to North Dakota State University to assess academic programs.
Ms. Nadel is editor-in-chief of Building Security: Handbook for Architectural Planning and Design (McGraw-Hill, 2004), which received several awards, and is the definitive international security reference. She’s written more than 460 articles on security, design, sustainability, and technology, appearing in over 100 magazines, newspapers, and web sites. She’s contributed to several books, including Encyclopedia of International Security, Architectural Graphic Standards (Wiley, 2007) and Time Saver Standards “Correctional Facilities” (McGraw-Hill, 2001). She’s been featured in over 250 media outlets, including The New York Times, Bloomberg News, Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Fox.com, McClatchy News, Canada.com, and others. She served on the Homeland Security Television Editorial Advisory Board. Ms. Nadel was editor-in-chief of AIA's Knowledge website, managing editor for Architectural Record's Continuing Education section.
