- Identify five performance benefits of single-wythe concrete masonry and explain why concrete masonry design with integrated components offers excellent design flexibility.
- Detail the composition of concrete masonry units and structural veneer unit standard sizes.
- Design a successful single-wythe concrete masonry wall with multiple lines of defense against moisture intrusion and adequate thermal protection.
- Identify the causes of cracking in a single-wythe concrete masonry wall and assess solutions for crack and movement control.
- By using project examples, illustrate how concrete masonry meets the aesthetic requirements of architectural review boards.

Background: Jim Cooper has 15+ years of masonry and building materials experience which includes but not limited to specification, distribution, and building materials sales in both residential and commercial markets. Mr. Cooper earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of San Diego and focused on International Relations and emerging markets. He is actively involved in the education and promotion of initiatives to our top industry leaders. Jim is currently the National Account Manager for Oldcastle’s architectural masonry products, and is based out of the Minnesota office.
