Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss the environmental and energy saving benefits of cool roofing.
- Define solar reflectance and thermal emittance, and using these terms discuss how to evaluate a cool roof relative to industry standards and green building program requirements.
- Identify the components of paint and their role in determining the performance characteristics of a roof coating system.
- Describe the continuous coil coating process and the benefits of this pre-paint metal surface treatment including its durability, and UV and corrosion resistance.
- Discuss industry test methods and approvals of coatings for cool metal roofing.

Background: John Kelly has been in the Paint industry his entire career, even his internship during college was in coatings. Throughout his amazing career, he has worked in a variety of roles and departments. He started out in the lab then through the years worked in Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Management positions. He is highly knowledgeable in the coating process from the formulation of the paint, to production, sales and finished product.
His current role in sales for major metal building customers, allows John to fully immerse himself in all levels of a project and customer, from leading training of sales staff on customers, to architectural presentations and championing of quality processes at customer facilities nationwide.
John graduated with a B.S. Chemistry from Villanova University. He has taken Management Development Course at The Ohio State University, various graduate level courses Chemistry, Business and Industry specific. He is the past President of Dallas Paint and Coatings Society, founder of Texas Pain t Council and a member of CSI.
