Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Recognize how kitchen design and renovation offers several opportunities to implement and integrate sustainable design solutions and practices into a home.
Identify the green building practices relating to The National Green Building Standard™ ICC 700-2008 that impact the kitchen and can significantly improve the sustainability of a home.
Discuss green building practices relating to resource, energy, and water efficiency and indoor environmental quality in terms of improving building performance and improving occupant comfort.
Incorporate a range of appliances seamlessly into a variety of creative and functional kitchen design projects.
Analyze and identify kitchen components and their sustainable performance benefits which contribute to a building project earning credits and qualifying for certification by today's green building programs.

Title: Project Manager, Design + Development Group, Whirlpool Corporation
Background: Andrea Hutchins is a Project Manager in the Design + Development Group of Whirlpool Corporation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the University of Detroit Mercy, is a Member of the American Institute of Architects, and a NKBA Associate Kitchen + Bath Designer (AKBD).
Andrea’s professional experience includes the architecture firms of Brooks Architectural, Inc., Mamola Associates Architects, P.C., Hobbs + Black Architects, and The Troyer Group. Andrea joined Whirlpool Corporation in 2008, where she specializes in partnering with the design and building industry through the creation of educational, informational, and experiential resources for design professionals. She speaks and teaches on behalf of the Whirlpool Corporation brands including: Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag, and Gladiator GarageWorks about design and technology trends that impact residential architecture.
Active in both the professional community and her local community, Andrea is a member of the Southwest Michigan chapter of the AIA. Andrea volunteers with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
