In addition to being an effective alternative to artificial lighting options, daylighting provides a wide range of other benefits for both the building and its occupants. This course addresses achieving daylighting in building design using skylights and curtainwall. This program includes discussions on the basics of daylighting, glazing options, daylighting methods, creative design, and green benefits of daylighting systems.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain how taking a building’s function into account when incorporating daylighting into your design can affect occupant comfort and productivity, and energy efficiency.
- List and compare the various glazing options available in terms of cost, longevity, and suitable applications.
- Describe a variety of daylighting methods, their key features and benefits, and how they can be creatively incorporated to enhance the design of a space.
- Summarize the design benefits that can be achieved using daylighting systems with respect to color, night-time illumination, and architectural features.
- Identify the ways in which daylighting can contribute to green building ratings.

Name: David Nyseth
Title: National Sales Manager, Major Industries, Inc.
Background: David has over 18 years of Construction, Construction Management, Sales and Sales Management experience as his guide to success. A native of Western Wisconsin, his career began when he took his first job building commercial buildings while in college. Four years later, he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Construction from the nationally accredited Construction Management School, UW-Stout. He has held a wide variety of positions in both sales and management; from Site Superintendent and Project Manager, to Regional Manager and now National Sales Manager, as his interest in learning something new about building materials and practices seemingly has no end. In his current position he oversees both an inside and outside sales force as well as a large rep network, where providing educational information for the design, specification and construction of translucent skylights and curtainwall for the architectural industry is a primary goal. He is a member of CSI, has earned his CDT and is currently studying for his LEED GA exam.
