Acoustic and RF-Shielding Door Solutions for Cybersecurity and Data Center Applications

This course introduces architects and specifiers to the fundamentals of radio-frequency (RF) shielding in building design, with a focus on hybrid-performance doors that provide both acoustic and RF attenuation for sensitive environments. Topics include applicable government standards, key applications, system components, and installation and testing considerations to support the effective specification of hybrid-performance doors for applications with stringent acoustic and RF shielding requirements.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Recognize the importance of proper acoustic control for the health, safety, and welfare of building occupants and the methods for using key sound measurements and testing techniques.
  • Define RF shielding as an architectural practice aimed at blocking electromagnetic interference (EMI) to protect sensitive equipment, ensure data integrity, safeguard occupant safety, and enhance overall facility reliability.
  • Review installation techniques, testing protocols, government standards, and compliance requirements for RF shielding to ensure defense against digital threats and maintain security in critical environments.
  • Describe hybrid-performance door attributes by examining how their combined components achieve both RF attenuation and high STC acoustic ratings to enhance occupant comfort and speech privacy.
