An ACM/MCM Overview: From Manufacture to Long-Term Performance

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

ACM/MCM cladding meets design criteria not physically or economically possible with other building façade materials. This course describes the continuous manufacturing process that results in extremely flat and strong panels and reviews fabrication, installation, and attachment techniques. Fire performance testing and ACM/MCM’s sustainability benefits are reviewed, and a wide array of coating and finishing options are presented.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe the manufacture, fabrication, and coating processes that result in long-lasting, durable ACM/MCM.
  • Compare ACM/MCM attachment systems to evaluate how they eliminate or manage water infiltration behind the panels while preventing moisture from entering the building interior.
  • Discuss the performance of ACM/MCM with fire-resistant cores and the testing methods required by the building code.
  • Restate the sustainability benefits of ACM/MCM through the use of highly recycled and recyclable metals, reduced metal consumption compared to similar materials, and long-term durability.
  • Explore the coating options and new finishing technologies to select ACM/MCM that will meet the aesthetic goals of any project.
