Clay bricks have been used for construction projects such as walls and pavement for thousands of years. Fired bricks are one of the strongest and longest-lasting building materials and offer many advantages. This course discusses the advantages of using clay permeable paving in a construction project and how a permeable pavement system mitigates the damaging effects of stormwater runoff, and presents an overview of the design process.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain the damaging effects of stormwater runoff.
- Discuss the advantages of using clay permeable pavers.
- Identify the elements considered in the design process.
- Describe the care and maintenance of permeable pavement systems.

Title: General Sales Manager, The Belden Brick Company
Background: Mark Britko has been in the brick business since 1987 starting out as a distributor sales representative with the Donley Brick Company. In 1992 Mark joined the US Brick Company as a sales representative for their Michigan Brick Division. In 1994 Mark moved on to The Belden Brick Company as a Regional Sales Manager and in 2001 was promoted to his current position as General Sales Manager. Mark is a 1975 graduate of West Liberty College with a BA in Business Education and also received designation of Certified Brick Salesman from the Brick Industry Association in 1995. Mark is also a member of the BIA’s Non-Residential Committee focusing on Commercial & Institutional Construction.
