Energy Savings Through Indoor Air Movement

HVLS fans are generally designed to be used in conjunction with an HVAC system and contribute to an energy efficient and environmentally friendly design. This course reviews the role of HVLS fans in thermal comfort and energy savings.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the use of air movement in reducing summer cooling loads and explain methods of determining cooling energy savings.
  • Identify the LEED® categories under which HVLS fans might contribute points.
  • Summarize destratification and describe how this would contribute to energy efficiency.
  • Describe HVLS fans and explain the how the blade number and size contribute to it’s efficiency.
  • Define the ASHRAE Standard 55-2013.
