Hybrid Heat Pump Systems: Energy Efficient Comfort Solutions
This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.
Provides an overview of the operation of hybrid heat pump systems and hybrid heat pump geothermal systems, including their energy savings, low electrical consumption, and efficient use of reclaimed heat.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain the operation of traditional reversing water source heat pump (WSHP) systems, hybrid heat pump systems, and hybrid heat pump geothermal systems.
- Explain how a hybrid heat pump system maximizes the design advantages and eliminates the design disadvantages of a traditional WSHP system.
- Identify the benefits of hybrid heat pump systems and hybrid heat pump geothermal systems in terms of their energy efficiency and cost savings.
- Detail how hybrid heat pump systems and hybrid heat pump geothermal systems not only conserve energy but also reclaim “waste” heat and use it for a wide variety of heating purposes throughout an entire building.
- Discuss how hybrid heat pump systems and hybrid heat pump geothermal systems provide occupants of a building with year-round comfort (heating or cooling), low sound levels, and dehumidification when required.

Name: Raoul Gautreau
Title: Director of Sales, CGC Group Inc.
Background: Raoul Gautreau, P.Eng is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada and a member of ASHRAE. In 1989, he graduated from Trane’s six months HVAC engineering graduate training program in WI, and was subsequently assigned to the Trane Toronto District office. He has worked with consultant engineers, contractors and building owners within the HVAC industry ever since. He also headed design build HVAC projects in the US, Canada, Ireland, and China. In 2008, he was given an opportunity to join the CGC Group to market their innovative Hybrid Heat Pump System. Having been involved in many facets of HVAC design for 19 years he quickly recognized the energy benefits of this system. He now travels throughout the US and Canada discussing the energy benefits of the CGC Group Hybrid System.
