A green roof can be defined as an artificial landscape on a rooftop, consisting of plants, growing media, and drainage over a waterproof membrane. That said, there are a variety of green roof types, each meeting different needs. In this course, we’ll look at green roof design considerations, policy, system types and installation, including specifying a green roof for single-source warranty.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain the many benefits of green roofing, such as mitigating the heat island effect, improving air quality, expanding habitat for small animals and urban agriculture.
- Define the components of a green roof assembly in its various forms: built-in-place, modular, and hybrid approach systems.
- Determine how green roofs can be used as part of a low impact development stormwater management plan.
- Ascertain how to specify vegetated roofing to meet various guidelines and industry standards for a successful green roof.

He is a member of ABAA's Technical Committee and E&O Committee. He has worked in both technical and sales capacities in the adhesives, sealants and coatings business since 1993. Brian holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in French from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
