The metal roof edge is the most visible and one of the most critical parts of a roofing system. However, it is often overlooked and the use of untested systems is common. This course will discuss why the design, testing and performance of metal edges is critical in ensuring the viability of the entire roof system, including an in-depth look at the ANSI/SPRI ES-1 standard.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Explain the importance of a perimeter roof edge and why it is critical for the roof system’s performance.
- Define the ANSI/SPRI/FM-4435 ES-1 standard and how it protects the roofing system.
- Identify the test protocols that are followed and how performance ratings are established.
- Explain how to specify tested edge metal and how to ensure it meets the IBC building code standards.
