Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss the discrepancy between the effective wall R-value and the insulation R-value in a steel stud exterior wall and identify the value of continuous insulation ("ci") in helping increase the thermal performance of a steel stud wall.
- Employ the notion of dew point to identify the location within a wall where condensation will occur and explain the magnitude of building air infiltration and what it means in terms of energy use.
- Identify rain screen design considerations and veneer attachment strategies for attaching nearly any type of cladding over "ci" systems.
- Discuss how "ci" wall systems increase a building's energy efficiency level by exceeding energy code standards for steel-framed walls for all U.S. climate zones.
