Understanding Thermoplastics: Why TPO & PVC Are Winning on the Rooftop

Thermoplastic membranes make up a large and growing commercial roofing segment and offer many installation and performance benefits. This course presents the attributes of PVC and TPO roofing membranes and their formulations, installation options, and sustainability benefits. The factors in selecting the type of thermoplastic and the benefits of a single-source system are also discussed.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

• Discuss the types, advantages, and installation methods of single-ply thermoplastic roofing membranes.
• Restate the sustainability benefits of TPO and PVC roofing, especially in terms of reflective roofing that mitigates the impacts of the urban heat island effect.
• Select the appropriate single-ply roofing system to meet building use, hail and fire resistance, and sustainability needs.
• Describe how a single-source roofing system tested and warranted as a unit contributes to the longevity and performance of the roofing project.
