Phenolic Architectural Panels: Creating Affordable Designs

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

Phenolic architectural panels are designed to work as cladding with a rainscreen design in a ventilated facade system. This course uses case studies to highlight the testing standards, attributes, and physical properties of phenolic panels (including structural integrity, code compliance, and design flexibility) to illustrate why they are an excellent exterior facade option for new and retrofit construction.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe how multiple objectives (including fire code/wind load compliance and structural integrity) can be met with phenolic rainscreen panels, and review the variety of decorative options that offer design flexibility.
  • State how the manufacturing process and installation options of phenolic panels provide the high strength and durability needed for the performance demands of a wall panel.
  • Explain how proper installation detailing of phenolic panels can contribute to sustainability by maximizing yield and minimizing waste.
  • Define basic rainscreen technology and why it is the preferred method of moisture management in wall construction to prevent the growth of mold and mildew and costly moisture-related damage.

Approximately 1 hour, 15 minutes. Delivered online, at your own pace.
