This course discusses cellulose insulation, a sustainable material creating solutions for sound control, fire resistance, and thermal architectural challenges.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Describe cellulose insulation, its components, installation methods, and general benefits.
- Explain the benefits of cellulose insulation as it relates to heat flow, R-value, and energy savings.
- Describe the unique qualities of cellulose insulation that contribute to its versatility and its use as a sustainable solution for a variety of design challenges, including sound attenuation, fire resistance, and thermal performance.
- Discuss the benefits of cellulose insulation in terms of its fire resistance properties, testing and standards, fire-rated assemblies, and real world performance characteristics.
- List numerous assemblies utilizing cellulose insulation that can contribute to and assist with global green building programs.

Background: Dave Bowman’s career has been spent in the specialty materials and chemicals business. His time has been spent in Sales, Marketing, Business and Technology Development related to creating and building businesses based on new technology. While he started out with a large chemical company (Hercules, Inc.) the bulk of his work has been in small to medium sized and growing firms, where there is a greater chance to drive profit and revenue growth through new ideas and products.
He is also very passionate about the future of the home building industry, and the issue of how we improve the energy efficiency and quality of U. S. Building stock. GreenFiber has been an excellent place to combine his materials and product experience with an industry that is transitioning to a new state of technology.
Mr. Bowman has a B. S. With Honors in Chemistry, Davidson College, 1976, M. S. In Biochemistry, Wake Forest University, 1979, Honorary degree certifications and chemistry fraternity election. Past member Product Development Management Association, Board of Directors, Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association, Board of Directors, Cellulose Insulation Manufacturers Association of Canada.
