Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss the fundamental principles of anchor theory including the types of load transfer mechanisms used to resist tension, shear and combined loading.
- Describe the various types of post-installed adhesive and mechanical anchoring systems.
- List the factors that determine anchor performance.
- Define the 2003/2006 International Building Code’s (IBC) design and test requirements for anchoring systems including Evaluation Service Reports (ESR).

Name: Richard T. Morgan, P.E.
Title: Technical Services Engineer, Hilti, Inc.
Background: Dick Morgan has been with Hilti for 22 years, serving in various engineering capacities. He is currently the Technical Services Engineer responsible for the development and maintenance of Hilti's PROFIS Anchor design software. He is involved in developing and implementing training and education for Hilti personnel and the design and specification community. Dick developed the Hilti 4-hour Strength Design continuing education seminars that were conducted nationwide in 2006 through 2009. He was a presenter at 10 of these seminars. He is also a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois. Dick has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Purdue University (BSCE 1981) and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
