Underground enclosures provide safety for pedestrians and vehicles and easy access for maintenance and repair. This course presents an overview of underground enclosures for non-deliberate traffic areas, including selection considerations, load ratings, placement, and installation, with a discussion of the ANSI/SCTE 77 performance standard.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- List the considerations when selecting an underground enclosure, particularly in terms of the importance to safety in deliberate versus non-deliberate traffic area applications.
- Describe the safe placement of underground enclosures related to the various load rating tiers and application types.
- Discuss the ANSI/SCTE 77 standard and required tests for underground enclosures.
- Explain proper enclosure specification and summarize the steps in a safe enclosure installation.
