ICP 3: Inspection of Interlocking Concrete Pavement Systems

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

There are many steps required to ensure a well thought out and complete construction project. This course examines procedures for inspection of interlocking concrete pavement, or ICP. It addresses preconstruction meeting details, requirements for submittals, and site inspection points from project start to completion. Various testing methods and inspection criteria are presented as well, and the importance of having an ICPI-trained contractor on the jobsite is discussed.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Describe topics for discussion during a preconstruction meeting on ICP specifying critical aspects of their construction from submittals to execution and then to final inspection.
  • Recall necessary submittal information for components of an ICP installation including physical properties, test reports, state and federal requirements and quality assurance standards to ensure a durable and safe installation.
  • Evaluate a project site and determine the factors that may affect the structural performance, durability and safety of an interlocking pavement installation by assessing the base required and the type, strength and thickness of all available paving materials.
  • Identify the most effective and appropriate interlocking concrete pavement patterns and joint widths that support pedestrian and vehicular uses safely.
  • Summarize key items and procedures requiring inspection, ensuring the ICP system is installed as per specifications to ensure the durability, functionality and safety of the installation.
  • Explain the ICPI ICP specialist designation and the importance of having certified personnel on the jobsite.
