There are many types of decorative tile and stone to choose from to enhance designs, and many things to consider in relation to selection and installation. This course discusses the physical and performance characteristics of decorative tile and stone, sustainability considerations, manufacturing processes and finishes, applicable standards and specifications, and installation materials and methods.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Use product label information based on ANSI standard A137.1 to select decorative tile and stone with the appropriate physical and performance characteristics required for the project.
- Summarize the manufacturing processes, finishes, and suitable applications for various types of decorative tile and stone.
- Explain how the industry-wide ceramic tile EPD, and the components of Green Squared® and ANSI/NSC 373 are aligned with green building rating systems.
- Recall general tile installation tips and specify the appropriate installation materials based on the type of tile and the application.

He has an in-depth installation and restoration background of ceramic tile, natural stone, terrazzo, and concrete. Fred worked as a stone, tile and flooring contractor, Stone Business Manager for Aqua Mix, and Team Leader of a national stone importer. He has also served on numerous industry committees: Ceramic Tile Institute of America, Ceramic Tile Consultant (CTC) designation, Marble Institute of America, Tile Council of North America, and is a member of USGBC.
