This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

EPDM, PVC, and TPO are the most popular single-ply roofing materials used in low-slope roof applications today. This course presents an overview of the differences between these materials in terms of manufacturing, formulation, and performance. In addition, seaming, flashing, and installation options are reviewed to aid in selecting a durable system that meets the project requirements.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Discuss the different manufacturing processes utilized in making thermoset and thermoplastic roofing membranes and their effects on the finished product.
  • Compare the material formulations and performance characteristics of EPDM, PVC, and TPO roofing membranes.
  • Identify the flashing and seaming methods available for EPDM, PVC, and TPO roofing membranes and the benefits and drawbacks of each.
  • Explore how to weigh the pros and cons of the roofing membrane and installation method when considering which system best fits the design criteria.
