Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Discuss how the manufacturing process of engineered wood products uses natural forest resources more efficiently.
- Recognize the steps involved in designing studs, headers and columns using engineered wood products.
- Identify the practical and structural advantages, and performance benefits of using engineered wood products as wall framing members.
- Differentiate and apply the basic design considerations beyond prescriptive code for walls over 10 feet tall.
- Discuss AC-202 code acceptance criteria and discern the effects of deflection and lateral wind on walls.

Name: Terry Soine
Title: District Sales Manager, LPĀ® Building Products
Background: Terry Soine is a Graduate of Dunwoody Institute in Architecture. He began his career as an Assistant Manager at Lampert Lumber, overseeing 55 lumber yards. Terry also worked in Research and Development for Conwed Corporation, an insulation manufactuer, then moved into their sales division. Terry began working for Masonite Corporation as a sales representative. Before coming to work for LP Building Products (Louisiana-Pacific Corporation) he owned and managed seven different companies including a lumber yard, a truss plan, and general construction company. In 1977, Terry was introduced to the Engineered Wood Products industry, where he worked for Trus Joist as a sales representative, then a sales manager responsible for 15 sales personnel. He continued working in this industry with Gang-Nail, Mitek, and now Louisiana-Pacific, where he is in his twelfth year as a District Sales Manager. Terry has been recognized several times by industry associations, including the NAHB as Associate of the Year, Division Salesman of the Year from Trus Joist, R&D employee of the year from Conwed for 4 new patents. He was also honored with the Member of the Super Region of the Year from Masonite Corporation for three consecutive years for doubling sales in his territory every year. Education within the industry is an important contribution where he has attended and/or taught at over 200 sales and engineering seminars as well as colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada.
