Improving Dryer Vent Safety, Installation, and Routine Maintenance
This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.
Clothes dryer fire safety is a serious and often overlooked problem. This course examines how a properly designed duct system with a minimum vent path and self-aligning magnets can simplify dryer installation, ease routine cleaning, boost dryer efficiency, and decrease fire hazards.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Identify the causes of clothes dryer fires and discuss how improper dryer installation and venting contribute to the risk of a structure fire, damage to personal property, or even loss of life.
- Compare the operation of different types of clothes dryers.
- Discuss dryer and venting safety standards and the actions the design professional and homeowner can take to reduce the risk of a dryer fire.
- Identify other hazards, including impact on indoor air quality and dryer efficiency, of improperly vented dryers.
- Describe how magnetic vent couplings work and discuss how they increase the safety of a dryer and its vent system by maintaining maximum airflow and mitigating the risk of fire.
