Bar and Plank Gratings are used for a wide range of applications. With the array of Grating products that are available on the market, the proper selection of a suitable solution requires an understanding of the specification considerations. This course provides a review of these considerations along with a discussion of the applications and terminology relating to Bar and Plank Grating products.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- List the component materials used in Bar and Plank Grating and describe how each differs in terms of aesthetics, structural capability, strength, durability, and availability.
- Discuss Bar and Plank Grating selection considerations when designing for specific loading requirements, specifically open area, bar height and thickness, spacing, span, and load type.
- List and compare the different types of Bar Grating including their relative heavy loading strength, stability, and walkability, and identify which type is ADA compliant.
- List and compare the different types of Plank Grating including their relative stability and walkability, and identify which types are ADA compliant.

In addition to responsibility for architectural product applications, Mr. Wan oversees the continuing education program for the architectural and design programs at McNICHOLS Company.
