Bar and Plank Grating: Profiles and Specification Considerations

This course is no longer active. AEC Daily will not report completion information for this course.

Bar and Plank Gratings are used for a wide range of applications. With the array of Grating products that are available on the market, the proper selection of a suitable solution requires an understanding of the specification considerations. This course provides a review of these considerations along with a discussion of the applications and terminology relating to Bar and Plank Grating products.

Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • List the component materials used in Bar and Plank Grating and describe how each differs in terms of aesthetics, structural capability, strength, durability, and availability.
  • Discuss Bar and Plank Grating selection considerations when designing for specific loading requirements, specifically open area, bar height and thickness, spacing, span, and load type.
  • List and compare the different types of Bar Grating including their relative heavy loading strength, stability, and walkability, and identify which type is ADA compliant.
  • List and compare the different types of Plank Grating including their relative stability and walkability, and identify which types are ADA compliant.
