Contemporary drinking fountains, water coolers, and bottle fillers provide communities with access to safe, clean drinking water. This course recounts the history of the drinking fountain and addresses regulations surrounding drinking water distribution and treatment. It compares the use of bottled water to bottle fillers and provides guidelines for specifying commercial water delivery systems.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Summarize the evolution of drinking fountains and the changes in public attitude toward them that have occurred over the years.
- Explain the U.S. water distribution system and treatment processes, and identify the regulations that govern them.
- Outline the standards applicable to drinking fountains and coolers and state how they ensure safe drinking water is accessible to all.
- Discuss the environmental impacts of plastic water bottles and present bottle fillers as a sustainable alternative.
- Specify water delivery solutions appropriate for the intended environment and project needs.

Background: Robert Murdock is the fifth generation family member of Murdock. He grew up in the plumbing industry, having worked throughout the company in the foundries, machine shop, design, assembly, and sales. Current projects include safe drinking water systems for the Flint Community Schools, new applications of UF and UV filters, 24-hour monitoring capability of our products via Wi-Fi, in addition to several other initiatives. Robert is a member and VP of Morris Group International, and a graduate of Miami University.
