Sustainable Tile Installations Using Membrane Technology
Critical to the longevity of any tile installation is the use of the appropriate membrane. This course delves into the types of membranes used to waterproof ceramic and stone tile installations and compares them in terms of performance and durability, ease of installation, control of variables, and function.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- List the various types of sheet membranes and fluid applied membranes and describe them in terms of their makeup, applications, and limitations.
- Describe the types of failures that can occur and how scheduling, rates of permeation, and building movement can affect the durability of a tile installation project.
- Explain the standards that have to be met and the resources available to professionals so they are able to develop specifications that ensure dependable performance.
- Discuss different installation methods, identify project needs, and specify the most appropriate waterproofing membrane which will in turn, contribute to the overall sustainability of the building project.
- Describe new wet area waterproofing products and how they ensure good indoor air quality and a durable installation.
