Provides an overview of the utilization of glass block in commercial architectural applications with a focus on safety and security solutions. This course reviews the performance characteristics and green benefits of designing with glass block systems, including how glass block supports LEED® building certification, daylighting strategies and sustainable design.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- List and describe the types of glass block products that are available, including energy efficient systems that optimize energy performance.
- Explain how glass block systems contribute to LEED points.
- Discuss how innovative glass block systems contribute to the health, safety and welfare of building occupants.
- State the green features of glass block that combine to provide a building material that plays a significant role in sustainable design and daylighting strategies.

Background: Bill Vaughan is the North American Sales Manager at Pittsburgh Corning. In his role as Sales Manager he works closely with the Technical Engineering Department as well as the Marketing Department to educate architects and designers about glass block. In his 19 plus years with Pittsburgh Corning, Bill has held a variety of sales positions. Prior to coming to Pittsburgh Corning, Bill worked for 10 years in the construction industry. Bill is a member of CSI, DBIA and SAME.
