In the wake of the green movement, combined with rising energy costs, building sustainability has become an important topic. This course reviews building practices that promote better building envelope design, the codes and standards that apply to energy efficiency, and the environmental advantages of using POLYISO continuous insulation in steel stud construction.
Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:
- Summarize the environmental advantages of using POLYISO continuous insulation in steel stud construction.
- Discuss codes and standards to achieve energy efficiency while meeting NFPA 285 compliance.
- Define the concept, importance, and benefits of sustainable building.
- Identify the factors that effect the performance of the building envelope.
- State the building practices that promote better building envelope design, and construction.

Name: Laurie Hill
Title: Vice President - Technical, Rmax Operating, LLC
Background: Upon graduating from Texas A&M University in 2000 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Laurie Hill began her career as the Process Engineer for the Rmax manufacturing facility located in Dallas, TX. As the Process Engineer, she led day to day plant operations with respect to product formulation, process control, quality control and efficiency. In January of 2008, Laurie was promoted to Technical Manager. In this position, she was instrumental in building a department that focuses on the technical aspect of sales and marketing, product approvals, research and development of new products, as well as, the synergy of the three manufacturing plants with respect to process and quality. Laurie was then recognized for her dedication and leadership through a promotion to Vice President – Technical where she continues to build a stronger Technical Department.
Laurie continues to support the advancement of the polyiso industry through active participation in the Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA), the Foam Sheathing Coalition (FSC) and the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Within PIMA, she is currently serving as the chair of the Quality Mark and Technical Bulletins Task Groups, co-chair of the Product Standards Task Group and is a member of the Sustainability and Competitive Products Task Groups. Laurie resides as the chair over the ASTM Material Specification Standard for Polyiso, ASTM C1289. She is also a member of ASHRAE and AIChE.
