Upon completion of this course, the Learner should be able to:

  • Determine the elements and technical characteristics of engineered stone, describe the process of production, and recall at least two advancements that support the use of engineered stone as a sustainable material.
  • Recognize the sustainable performance capabilities of engineered stone in terms of its life cycle, durability, strength, flexibility, and impact and scratch resistance.
  • Identify key fabrication and design process issues to consider when specifying engineered stone, and explain how engineered stone was used to create successful installations.
  • Analyze the sustainability benefits of using engineered stone, and determine how the use of engineered stone in a design project can contribute towards achieving LEED® credits.
