- Determine how pressure applied fire retardants work on treated wood.
Examine the types of fire retardant systems available.
Assess and evaluate the properties of the newest generation of fire retardants for wood.
Discover the flame spread and smoke developed ratings of untreated and treated wood species.
Recognize the various testing procedures and classifications required to be code compliant.
Demonstrate the identification and procedural guidelines when using fire retardant treated lumber and plywood.

Background: Received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Industrial Management from The Ohio State University in 1974. Upon graduation worked for the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) as a Regional Manager representing the southern pine sawmills promoting southern pine lumber products to architects, engineers, designers, builders and contractors. Presented numerous In-Grade Design Value Seminars on the new structural lumber values. Also promoted various building systems such as the Permanent Wood Foundations system and the Raised Wood Floor system for SFPA. Presented the University Wood Seminars at major universities such as the University of Notre Dame, University of Illinois, Indiana University, Ball State University, University of Arkansas, and University of Michigan to name a few.
Continued working in the lumber business as a lumber wholesaler with Fireside Forest Industries and Carolina Mills specializing in southern pine lumber and plywood both untreated and pressure treated products.
Currently the Regional Marketing Manager for Viance representing D-Blaze, ACQ, and TimberSaver PT to architects, engineers, code officials, contractors, builders and retailers.
